Lessons that Didn't Click - May 2021
I love it when a lesson clicks. But when it doesn't, I'm left wondering if it's me or the lesson.
I had to stop taking Wes Bos's course Advanced React. While many parts are helpful, I eventually got a stage where I wasn't really learning anymore, but just watching Wes say, "Ok, now I'm going to type this to get this to work." I feel like I need to go through it again one day. Secondly, I was excited about the testing and deployment steps, yet those videos haven't been recorded.
Another thing I need to get more exposure to is TypeScript, so I found this TypeScript crash course from freeCodeCamp. While it starts off approachable, it ends up covering things that go in one ear and out the other. I need drills like my daughter's 3rd grade homework to get this stuff to sink in. I'll look for more opportunities to explore TypeScript usage. Part of me thought "should I just convert this site to TypeScript" but if I'm not doing changes everyday, then I'm going to lose insight into why anything is set the way it is.
